Date Started: 3/5/2020 Date Finished: N/A Seen: 17,000 If there were ever a single hunt that could act as a perfect testament to my needless pickiness towards how I conduct my shiny hunts, this would certainly be it. This Wishiwashi hunt is autism incarnate. I started it in Hulbury on a whim - where it is no more than a 5%, may I inform you!! - because I couldn't be assed to progress through the game to the 30% encounter slot on Route 9. I wanted to beat Kabu with a shiny Wishiwashi! Then, I saw the infographic about the traditional (mostly indigenous) names for the full moons. August's moon is the Sturgeon Moon! I thought this was so baller that I decided immediately to only hunt Wishiwashi in August. Is Wishiwashi even a sturgeon? No, not even a little. It just compelled me. This decision, of course, invalidated Route 9 as a capture location anyway! I didn't want to be in a snowy area for an August-exclusive hunt! Luckily, at this time, the Isle of Armor had come out, so I got to pick a more opportune encounter table anyway. There are some lovely places where the only fishing encounters are 60% Magikarp and 40% Wishiwashi... but of course I can't reach those without Surf... So I'm stuck on Challenge Beach with 50% Magikarp, 40% Wishiwashi, and 10% Dhelmise. "Oh, Dhelmise would be awesome to phase on," you say. "Why are you complaining?" Well, yes, I agree that it's awesome! So much that I want to target it with Harvest and give it its own video with special theming. I don't love hunting dupes as much, so getting a 10% phase on Dhelmise would be quite the bummer for me specifically. This hunt is so stupid. It's such a Looney Tunes-ass cascade of "well, but"s in its execution. On top of all of the above shenanigans, I'm at ~double odds!~ It's fitting that I'm hunting this thing in Challenge Beach. And yet, I get so excited every August to work on it again. I like that you can fish using solely audio cues - made even easier by SWSH finally letting you turn off the music, which is part of why I love hunting in Gen 8. That way, I can bring it to the Perseids meteor shower and set the system face-down so that it doesn't interfere with my eyes getting accustomed to the dark. If I don't get it by the 12th this year, I'm going to be doing just that! I really hope to close out this hunt this year. As per my bingo, I'm trying to get old hunts finished up before I start anything major and new. I believe in myself! Please believe in the me that believes in me <3

LMAO our brains 🤝 me when i set-up a domino-ass chain of hunts just for One (1) ribbon master, and decide i'll set one of them in the XY berry field too while i'm at it, because isn't it such a neat encounter location amirite??? (also me stalling my started-at-game-launch shield nuzlocke for two fucking years because i was hellbent on getting all four of the godforsaken shiny fossils before i left the damn route :'''3) we don't have the exact same kind of rube goldberg machine reasonings, but i feel deep kinship with your situation regardless x'D
it's so nice that this is gets you excited every august though, that's so sweet!! your audio-cues-only method sounds so big brain, best i found back when i was SRing in shield was using Y instead of X to close the game, since that launches you into the switch profile picking menu right away instead of just closing it. but since i was mostly watching stuff (like the She-Ra reboot, for one) to pass the time during that, maybe soundless A-spamming really was just the better fit for my situation xD
i believe in you too!!!! if we're sharing goals for the year (or month) ((i'm really optimistic sometimes)), i really really hope i can finally start posting chapter 1 of the aformentioned nuzlocke comic this month... it's very likely i'll make it before the end of the year at least, which is what i'm most hoping for, but i keep having to find further away dates for starting to post because of my progress on chapter 1, and ever since that my brain got the idea to make it a ""significant"" or ""meaningful"" date for what will become the anniversary, it's been getting harder and harder to find a new one each time...... oh well. at least i'm pretty sure i can make it this year! and i hope you can too!!!

It's been a while! I brought my game with me to go visit legendlinke from the 2nd to the 14th (although I was traveling for the 1st and 15th). On the train ride there, I was not hunting, as I was grinding out an insane piece for ArtFight that I ended up finishing just in time. While visiting, though, I started my encounters, and I ended up acquainting myself more with bringing my Switch on outings. I had already been comfortable doing this with my smaller handhelds, but this was a learning curve. I guess I had just compartmentalized the Switch differently in my mind. The first of such trips was IKEA, in which I demonstrated my ability to maintain a death grip on my handhelds at all times. Of course I had to take a picture in this Wishiwashi-ass mirror... I also wanted a picture on a very blue piece of furniture. I got some good encounters done on this outing, even if I made Sam nervous carrying the OLED around. On our way out, we saw some curious things... Where are you taking those? Double raibow :) Another trip that I didn't get a shiny on was a trip to the mall, but we did find some really sick stores that we'll be returning to. I also had Hot Dog on a Stick (the restaurant) for the first time! Wow, I really liked it. The final outing that Wishiwashi accompanied me on was a quick little sit by the pond. There were some people teaching a kid to fly fish nearby, while I was doing my fake Switch fishing :p I really wanted to take this hunt to the Perseids, but weather was not permitting on either of the projected peak nights :( I don't remember what number I ended the trip at, but I hit triple odds during the visit for sure. And now! I'm at quad odds :) As of posting this, I'm starting the day of hunting at 17,000. Please let me get it this year. Dear god.

Good lord. To make a long story short, I got it... Approaching quint odds at 20,156. ON THE LAST POSSIBLE DAY, AUGUST 31. I'm extremely glad that I didn't phase. My only regret was that maybe I should've secured a Moon Ball... but who cares, it looks so incredible in a Quick Ball and it was a quick capture that way. His name is SturgeonMoon, exactly as planned. And he's Jolly! The video about him will exist at some point... we'll see how long it takes. It's gonna be REALLY scuffed. I'm just glad I don't have to go another year without Fishi ;-;
