If you have any suggestions for future themes, those go there.
Welcome to the first run of our monthly challenge system! For the first month, we wanted something simple. A theme so obvious, it would be silly to avoid it. It's March, after all, which means Saint Patrick's Day is nearly upon us. I'm sure many of us have had the experience where if you don't wear a certain color on that day, you might get pinched. That's right, the first monthly theme is... GREEN SHINIES That color up there was lovingly picked from the HGSS sprite of my personal favorite green shiny: Stantler. What's your favorite green shiny? This theme is a looser one to start out with! There are many green shinies, and there's a bit of a subjective gray area in the margins of the color. Some people consider shiny Trapinch green; others would say it's blue, or blue-green in a way that can't be put on either side of the fence. There's also a bit of debate to be had about "golden" shinies such as Pidgey, where they're this greenish... yellowish... thing? So as long as you are hunting something that appears as green to you, it is valid for this hunt. Posting a shiny that fulfills this prompt will award you with the first-ever badge up for grabs in the Slumbering Weald... Any legitimate shiny counts, be it from a main series game, spinoff, fangame, or whatever! RNG manipulation is considered legitimate for these events. In my mind, that's still effort put in. An illegitimate shiny in this case would be one that is hacked in or obtained using some sort of speed-up function. As for how you participate posting-wise, there are a couple of ways to go about it! You can reply to this thread with the shiny when you get it; that's an easy way to get my attention so that I can award you my badge. If you were to make a thread just for your theme hunt, it would go in whichever subforum it would usually go in based on the odds and game. It would be easier on me if you were to still link that thread here in a reply! But I won't try to control how you post it. While hunting shinies is the only way to obtain the badge, you can still get in on the spirit of the event in other ways! We'd love to see artistic endeavors that are predominantly green in some way: monochromatic art pieces, making Saint Patrick's Day cookies... Go outside and take a picture of some greenery! Post all over the relevant forums with your festive things! (I won't yell at you if you reply with it here, though.) This is such a wide theme, and I'm excited to see how people rise to the occasion.

in line with the trapinch problem, i'm setting up for horsea in ruby right now (gotta get that super rod). arguably a very blue-green shiny, but i don't know if i would put it on either side of the fence. does blue-green count as green? it does to me, so i should be in accordance with the forum post.. however i'm anxious and wanted to triple check. am also hunting shadow bagon from arlo in GO, assuming that falls under the spinoff category. excited for this! i think monthly challenges will be a good way to get myself back into shiny hunting regularly, as i've mostly been doing it off and on.

That would be okay by me! As long as you're comfortable considering something green, it works. (That's odd wording, I know, but I mean that if you don't feel you're stretching how you already define color for the sake of the challenge, I think it's fine!) Good luck on both of these!! Shadow Bagon is awesome, I never really see people target something specific in Go :) Go forth and save that little beast! I'm glad you like the idea ^_^ I really hope it ends up reviving the love of the hunt for me, too.

Hopefully this will motivate me to get back to my shadow Quilava hunt (GCN shiny Quilava has green flames, very cool!). I went really hard on it in January and ended up super burnt out on shiny hunting as a whole.

Anyways, already got something yesterday that I was told to post here so-
Shiny Tangela in White 2 after 13.542 REs! (10 phases in total, 46.521 REs altogether!)
This was a long hunt but it was mostly annoying cuz of the amount of phases I went through despite it being common as hell!Attachments:

angerandagony Cong ratulations! Enjoy your Verdant Badge :) While we're here, let me clarify something that a few people have asked me privately. If you obtain a shiny this month that is not green, but it evolves into something green within the month, it counts. As long as you have a picture proving that you obtained a green shiny, you are in the clear. Here are a list of examples to hopefully explain some niche scenarios: - You catch a shiny Krabby on March 5th, evolving it into Kingler the same day and posting your proof. This counts for the Verdant Badge, as you have obtained a green shiny in March.
- You catch a shiny Sandshrew on March 16th, evolving it into Sandslash on the 24th. This counts for the Verdant Badge; you got a green shiny, after all.
- You already have a shiny Eevee from January. You evolve this into Espeon. This does not count for the Verdant Badge, as the Pokémon was not acquired in March.
- You catch a shiny Poliwag on March 24th. You evolve it into Poliwrath on the same day and take a picture, but you saved the game beforehand and soft reset over the evolution. While this isn't exactly in the spirit of the challenge, I can't really stop you. Disallowing this outright might make it hypocritical that I would like to allow people who failed their theme shiny (such as through a Safari Zone flee) to still collect the badge if they see fit.
Please let me know if any extra clarification is needed!

Took 2219 encounters with the Shiny Charm and I missed my target for something several times rarer, but I did in fact get a green shiny! Say hello to Shamrock the Zweilous, found in the Victory Road of Pokemon X. Thinking I'll collect a whole lot of ribbons on him before transferring him up.

wooo! i got a green shiny for the badge! it was not the horsea, or the shadow bagon, but something else i've been wanting for awhile. shiny rainy castform! i wish these guys were in the main series games. with weather week happening in GO, i had pretty much only tonight from 11pm to 1am and then 2am to 3am to get rainy form castform not off of field research tasks. i drove around to every pokéstop i saw that had rainy form for an hour and a half, and did some walking around my boyfriend's apartment complex in the hopes of finding one. right after 2am, i saw that the weather had changed back from cloudy to rainy, and i wanted the mon so badly i decided to go back out in the rain for a third time that night to get it. as luck would have it, i actually got the shiny! the odds are boosted right now to 1/128, but it still took me 173 castform seen (tracked in pokédex) to come across it. my boyfriend named her sopping (like sopping wet cat), and i'm going to best buddy her at the same time as my shiny growlithe :-) the green isn't as obvious on the pokémon screen, so i also included a photo i took of a zorua disguised as her. warning, these images are huge and i don't know how to downsize them :-(

"pokémon go makes you go outside" is overrated, try "you really want to use catching o-powers for this shiny hunt because you are paranoid but for that to even be a viable strategy you need to walk 4k steps a day so the o-power circles charge at a speed that makes them actually usable"

I DID IT
zero strawberry drowzees acquired in the process, and she's a girl <33 the name is . complicated to explain. because i wanted to name her after a very specific thing that doesn't really have a name and would take too many words to actually refer to in a recognizable manner. but there was this warrior cats AU MAP with a behind the scenes video explaining a lot of cool stuff, and while thinking i remembered this part about the starclan trees (more specifically here at 34:57). i really liked the creator's reasoning, and i realized shiny sigilyph's colors were the same as the trees'. so after way too much of brainstorming and synonym searching i settled on the irish (because st patrick green and also flavor) word for "half", in reference to the trees' look of half-green half-autumn :)
