Hello! Since the forum is very, very new, a lot might inevitably be broken, missing, or hard to understand. This is the thread to post about it on! Here are a couple things that I need help with from all of you. - Do the rules and mission statement make sense? Is there anything that needs clarified, or a rule you think is missing?
- Are there any parts of the theme that are broken? (The header of the Badges popup in the profile is definitely wrong. We're working on it. We also know that Zacian is a little shy. We're working on that, too.)
- Are there any places in important threads that were clearly meant to have a link somewhere, but I forgot?
- Do you have a question about where to post something that isn't covered in "Where do I post...?"
- What else do we need in the New User Guide?
That last bit there is a link. That's another thing I'm running into while trying to get this forum presentable: I can control how links look in posts, but this also affects how usernames show up, as well as thread links in subforums. I have gone with a simple color change for now. Is this okay? (For whatever reason, I cannot get it to let me pick "underline" as an option. I literally have it selected... I'm not a coder x'c )
There's also something I wanted to crowdsource opinions on. There are a few different aspects of forum life that could use a little more flair: Labels and Ranks. Labels can be appended when you create a new thread, and act as tags to denote their content. We can make custom colors for these! At the top of most subforums, there is a posting guide that details which labels are meant for what. These are massive WIPs; I've only completed the guide for Full Odds Field, as I was most confident on what users would find useful there. I'd like your help on some things: - What labels would you like to see? Please specify which subforum you would find them useful in.
- What colors would you like for new or existing labels?
- Is it even necessary to have label guides per subforum?
Ranks can be seen under your username in both your main profile and the mini-profile that appears alongside posts. They are attained by reaching a certain post count and denoted by an amount of colorful stars. The amount and color of the stars are aspects I have control over. A breakdown of the existing ranks can be found on the second post of our New User Guide. So, let me know the following: - How do we feel about the aesthetics of the current ranks? (Post count, star count and color, name)
- Do you have any ideas for more ranks between the bigger ones? The idea is usually to have more ranks earlier on, with fewer the higher the post count gets. But if it feels like there's too wild of a gap, don't be afraid to point it out!
Those are just a few examples of what I'm asking for. If you notice something I haven't listed, please go ahead and say as much! I want this opening to run as smoothly as possible, and any feedback is appreciated.

Not exactly about the label itself, but rather label definitions. Should Colosseum and XD be considered pseudo main series games for the sake of thread placement? I know they aren't truly part of the main series, but their mechanics are about as similar as can be, they have the same shiny odds, and they can trade with other Gen 3 games. Until Go (which is a much, much more clear-cut case) gained Home compatibility, they were the only spinoffs that existed in the code of the main series as a possible origin game for a Pokemon. In short, I don't see Colo/XD hunting as any different from main series hunting, and I'd be interested if other people agree.

I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with Colo/XD being counted under Main Series? however, I feel like they definitely still fall into side game territory, with how different the actual encounters and hunts work and feel. despite being the same odds and having similar mechanics, they definitely differ a good bit in other ways. same goes for stuff like Battle Revolution uncatchables/costumes, if anyone decides to go for those. I think any of those hunts would likely fit better in Spinoff Swamp. the only grey area I could really think of is lock removal Pokewalker, even if it is super niche, I would be fine with it being considered Main Series since it is explicitly built around functioning with a main series game (HG/SS), while Colo/XD have their own identities outside of being able to interact with GBA games.

one thing i noticed is there doesn't seem to be any sort of notification system for thread replies - will that be contained to messages? i like the "participated" widget, i think that's a good way to go back and check, but i'd like some form of notification if someone has replied to my post or posted after me. edit: i just saw there are notification options under profile! honestly, i would never have thought to check there. i think it might be a good idea to move that next to messages on the main user bar for ease of access, it might be more intuitive. however, i'm also not sure if this is a forum limitation or something that can be changed like in a website builder - it may not even be possible to do that /shrug i think that the link coloration is fine! i like the color you chose and i think that it's cohesive with the rest of the website. i can tell due to the color difference that it's a link, even if it's not underlined. i really like the "in the tranches" role, and i think communicating the different roles and ranks based on participation was well done. for labels, i'd prefer to keep away from colors that are more painful to the eye like neons, and if possible, to make sure that the label colors are visibly different to people with colorblindness for accessibility.

naixatloz I appreciate the perspective! I'm more in line with the way descending is seeing it; ColoXD encounters are quite different from anything else in the main series. If I were hunting in those games, and I wanted to find others that were hunting alongside me, my instinct would be to go to the spinoff section since it's pretty niche. But I'd be glad to have more replies from others on this front! If it's any consolation, there will absolutely be generational labels within the Spinoff Swamp as well. I was just rushing to get everything done, so I thought I'd implement them once we'd reached a consensus on what's needed. descending Thank you for the feedback! As far as lock removal is concerned, I would like that to remain in the Hidden Grotto, as it's a way of modifying the game that not everyone may agree with. I hope this will keep as many people as happy as possible, since if you believe in lock removal you can choose to interact with the subforum, and if you prefer to avoid it then it isn't anywhere you wouldn't expect to find it. fourdollaremo Thank you for weighing in! As far as your first idea goes, I cannot find a way in the admin panel that lets me influence that with my very limited site building knowledge. slowby is our resident coder who actually understands the bones of the website, so he'd be the one to ask. But we've just been tinkering with the look of existing functions; if there's a way to move things like that, I do not know of it. (I've been thinking of asking the Warrior Cats RP Forums how they do things, since they also use ProBoards, and their layout is very impressive to me...) Good thought on the colors! I'm glad you like what we have so far. I was thinking for the label colors, we could pick a color that appears a lot in that generation's shinies. This might lead to some necessary edits, since Sinnoh boasts those iconic Quick Ball colors on a lot of shinies, which might be a bit bright. I truly wish that the color picker had some sort of colorblindness toggle so that I can preview how things would look to people with different color vision capabilities :[ Sorry for the mass ping! This might be the way to do multiple replies on this site, as I cannot find a plugin that allows for multi-quoting.

As far as labels go, for Methods Meadow, labels like Shiny Charm, Masuda Method, PokeRadar, and Shiny Sandwich Power might be the most useful due to their prevalence, though Dynamax Adventures, SOS Chaining, Chain Fishing, and DexNav are existing niches as well. Methods Meadow is also currently missing the Gen labels too, or at the very least I didn't see them when I went to post. I'd suggest adding labels for things like Soft Resetting/Random Encounter hunts, but I feel like that might actually be getting into the pointless clutter territory. Either way, just some ideas!

Wulfric Those are good ideas! Yes, they are definitely missing the generation labels. That's not you, dw, that was just me being in a rush and then being busy since c'x Worst case scenario, we can always take away labels we don't need later! EDIT: Added a handful of labels as suggested. I will update the Labels Guide as necessary~

if i want to make a soulsilver dream team quest thread, would that go under "hunter's haven" as a general thread or under "full-odds field"?

if i want to make a soulsilver dream team quest thread, would that go under "hunter's haven" as a general thread or under "full-odds field"? Full Odds Field works! "Where do I post...?" has some specifications regarding mixed odds (ie a quest with 5 full odds, 1 masuda), but if it's 100% full odds, then yeah, Full Odds Field works!

question... is there a reason the masuda minion rank is at 500 and not 512? :o edit: also, suggestion. what if instead of black the pokérus pestilence stars were colorpicked purple from one of the pokérus icons? edit again: i don't know a whole lot of shiny-related numbers, but what about a rank at 255 that references the SOS chains in SM resetting at that point? i know a lot of stuff in electronics and games is related to 255/256, but i figure it adds a nice midway point between 100 and 500 (or 512), and having a method that was affected by the number is convenient way to rep it. for rank name suggestions, hmmm… maybe SOS Spirit or SOS Specter? i wasn't sure of it at first, but it kinda fits with 255 being what breaks the chain, lol. unless anyone finds a better one x)

dungeonmereshi that would be because whatever reference I was using was probably a little wrong :P I'll fix that! And I love SOS Specter, I might go ahead and add that :) I can't actually control the exact color of the stars - there's a dropdown menu with a handful of different colors - but I can try to get it as close as possible! Thank you for all your ideas <3
